Over the years I have created a lot of characters. How many of them actually see release is uhhhh, a lot smaller overrall. These are characters that are either
1. LOST 2. Canceled due to lack of interest/other miscellaneous factors. So why not dive in? Look into the past of lost and canned WIPs that went absolutely nowhere. It should be noted not everything I ever made will be covered here. I have made a lot of WIPs. A whole fucking small screenpack's worth. However this will be the most interesting ones.
I suffered from a pretty bad computer virus a few years ago. This fucked over my files, which included a massive MUGEN collection and a load of WIPs. Here's some of them, to my best recollection.
Descrption: Back in around late 2019 (yea it's been a while), I was briefly fixated on old Arcade MK rumors. We all know about Reptile, Smoke, etc. but you ever heard of Emerald, the other female green ninja? Remember Hornbuckle? Or Nimbus Terrafaux, the guy's who name translates to "Sky Landfake"? One of my personal favorites out of all these obviously fake palette swaps was Red Robin. Described as a ninja clone that was completely red, extremely fast, had the spear, and was very good at throwing you.
Now something to note is, Red Robin is already in MUGEN, it's just he's some Scorpion clone who's MKP only. My version would have been a massive joke edit in a custom style. I showcased him... ONCE in this video from fucking ages ago. Then he never got shown off again. I can't remember exactly what the hell I added but I remember he just sat there in my MUGEN folder until the virus happened.
Honest to God, I wanna restart this guy some day. With my marginally better programming skills, a speedy grappler ninja with a lot of stupid attacks would absolutely kill it. Just know, like said before, he won't play like Mortal Kombat. He'll be custom styled.
Description: Around 2020-2021, I was scrolling through YouTube and found out about this ROM hack called Pokemon: H Edition which I'll link here because you'll be traumatized if you try to search otherwise. Moving on, the hack was very, very strange. Almost everything is the letter H. The text? All H. The Pokémon? All H (with few exceptions.) The player character? Luigi but he faces backwards for some reason and walks faster. I thought "Hey this could be an awesome character!" and in hindsight this was a terrible idea to do when I barely had any character coding experience. I still don't have good coding knowledge but I'm getting there. I'll go into more detail about how weirdly ambitious this stupid joke was.
He had not one, BUT THREE FUCKING GIMMICKS. The first is very simple, he faced backwards. This was not just a visual thing, movement was fucked as back was forward and forward was back. He blocked the same direction you press to walk, he had no auto turn. He also had a different control scheme. 6 buttons, how about 3, with one of them being the Start button. X and Y were a punch and a kick while Start was used for a Menu.
The backwards facing was simple enough, just a couple lines of code. What was really pushing it was the other gimmick, the Hs. WIth a QCF comman, he could summon 6 random Pokemon, that were all the letter H. They all had random movesets.
Yes... and no. Of course you may be asking "GC, what in the fuck do you mean yes AND no?" Well, the core idea of a fighter summoning Pokémon while also fighting on the battlefield is an amazing idea, but the outdated meme hack part would probably not survive nowadays. I honestly don't know if I'll do something like that considering I'm not a huge Pokémon fan or anything.
Description: Another early 2020s character that got lost. The gimmick of this Mokou was simple: she had a Scoville System, represented by numbers on the bottom. The amount of Scoville increased everytime she landed a hit or projectile, and she could spend some scoville to get some extra spicy attacks. What really made her stand out was the fact she was a form change character. Reach certain scoville levels, and she'll change palettes to indicate she's in a new form, based on spicy peppers. The base form is "Bell Pepper" and the strongest form was "Ghost Pepper". I can't remember what the other three forms were based on.
If I feel like it.
Yea, that's the character. It's a fucking Colonel statue head, and it's "animated" with extensive use of the AngleDraw SCTRL. If I could pinpoint the exact time I learned I loved AngleDraw, it would have been during the period I was working on this. Unlike most of the other characters here, this guy actually has a few progress videos, so I don't need to type any long paragraphs about "potential" moves and such.
I'm not into fast food edits anymore but I'll make an exception for this guy. Too stupid of an idea to not bring back.
Here's stuff I canceled. Whether it be lack of interest or... yeah most of these I just lost interest in.
Description: A joke edit of Piplup made to ride the coattails of a character jam. it would have been based on a mix of Dragon Ball FighterZ memes, old MUGEN edits like The Nightmare, and more DBZ crap, as well as things not relating to Dragon Ball. Canned mostly because FF3 was being an extreme pain in the ass to work with and my general declining interest.
I do not know honestly. These days if I were to make a joke character based on Dragon Ball, I would probably just edit Broly or something.
